Install Rpm On Vmware Esxi 5 [UPDATED]



Ok I have an issue with the above answers. I get it that you shouldn't get a console but there should be some way to deploy "needed" agents etc. In my case a DL380 with noisy fans could be quiet'd down with a "cpqhealth-2.3.0-20.Redhat7_1.i386.rpm" How does one get this driver installed on the ESXi 4. platform then?

Device drivers are different from firmware. Device driver software is installed on the OS, whereas firmware is lower-level code that is installed on hardware devices. Firmware is stored in non-volatile memory, such as ROM, Erasable Programmable ROM (EPROM), or flash memory.


After you install the driver with one of the previously mentioned commands, exit Maintenance mode and reboot the host. For more information on how to install drivers, reference the Related Information section at the end of this document.


The eNIC and usNIC drivers have their own distinct version numbers. If you install the cisco-enic-usnic RPM on SLES 12 SP 1 or later, once those drivers are loaded into the running kernel (For example, via rebooting), use cat /sys/module/enic/version and cat /sys/module/usnic_verbs/version to view their respective version numbers. The cisco-enic-usnic RPM has its own distinct version number as well. Because it represents the packaging of the eNIC and usNIC drivers, the RPM version number look similar, but does not reflect the specific version of either driver.


Integrate NSX-T plugin with vSphere: In vSphere 7.0 Update 3 we provide the possibility to easily install NSX-T plugin directly from vSphere Client. We also ensure the seamless authentication between vSphere and the installed plug-in. vSphere admins can trigger the installation flow from the dedicated NSX page accessible from the main navigation menu. Once the installation is completed, they can continue with the post-install configuration on the same page. Please note that the simplified installation is supported for NSX-T version 3.2.0 and later.

If you use both vSphere Auto Deploy and vCenter Server High Availability in your environment, rsync might not sync quickly enough some short-lived temporary files created by Auto Deploy. As a result, in the vSphere Client you might see vCenter Server High Availability health degradation alarms. In the /var/log/vmware/vcha file, you see errors such as rsync failure for /etc/vmware-rbd/ssl. The issue does not affect the normal operation of any service.


In rare cases, vSphere Storage DRS might over recommend some datastores and lead to an overload of those datastores, and imbalance of datastore clusters. In extreme cases, power-on of virtual machines might fail due to swap file creation failure. In the vSphere Client, you see an error such as Could not power on virtual machine: No space left on device. You can backtrace the error in the /var/log/vmware/vpxd/drmdump directory.


Workaround: Update the plug-ins to use Spring 5. Alternatively, downgrade the vSphere Client to use Spring 4 by uncommenting the line //-DuseOldSpring=true in the /etc/vmware/vmware-vmon/svcCfgfiles/vsphere-ui.json file and restarting the vSphere Client. After upgrade, previously installed 32-bit CIM providers stop working because ESXi requires 64-bit CIM providers. Customers may lose management API functions related to CIMPDK, NDDK (native DDK), HEXDK, VAIODK (IO filters), and see errors related to uwglibc dependency. The syslog reports module missing, "32 bit shared libraries not loaded."


When you upgrade a vCenter Server deployment using an external Platform Services Controller, you converge the Platform Services Controller into a vCenter Server appliance. If the upgrade fails with the error install.vmafd.vmdir_vdcpromo_error_21, the VMAFD firstboot process has failed. The VMAFD firstboot process copies the VMware Directory Service Database (data.mdb) from the source Platform Services Controller and replication partner vCenter Server appliance.


Workaround: Restart vmware-vpxd-svcs in your vCenter Server system by using the command service-control --restart vmware-vpxd-svcs. Use the command only when no other activity runs in the vCenter Server system to avoid any interruptions to the workflow. For more information, see VMware knowledge base article 81953.


Migration of vCenter Server for Windows to vCenter Server appliance 7.0 fails with the error message IP already exists in the network. This prevents the migration process from configuring the network parameters on the new vCenter Server appliance. For more information, examine the log file: /var/log/vmware/upgrade/UpgradeRunner.log


After installing or upgrading to vCenter Server 7.0, when you navigate to the Update panel within the vCenter Server Management Interface, the error message "Check the URL and try again" displays. The error message does not prevent you from using the functions within the Update panel, and you can view, stage, and install any available updates.

When you perform group migration operations on VMs with multiple disks and multi-level snapshots, the operations might fail with the error com.vmware.vc.GenericVmConfigFault Failed waiting for data. Error 195887167. Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout.


Removing I/OFilter from a cluster by remediating the cluster in vSphere Lifecycle Manager, fails with the following error message: iofilter XXX already exists. Тhe iofilter remains listed as installed.


Disabling and re-enabling vSphere HA during remediation process of a cluster, may fail the remediation process due to vSphere HA health checks reporting that hosts don't have vSphere HA VIBs installed. You may see the following error message: Setting desired image spec for cluster failed.


If a cluster has ESXi hosts with enabled lockdown mode, remediation operations by using the vSphere Lifecycle Manager might skip such hosts. In the log files, you see messages such as Host scan task failed and com.vmware.vcIntegrity.lifecycle.EsxImage.UnknownError An unknown error occurred while performing the operation..


NVMe-oF is a new feature in vSphere 7.0. If your server has a USB storage installation that uses vmhba30+ and also has NVMe over RDMA configuration, the VMHBA name might change after a system reboot. This is because the VMHBA name assignment for NVMe over RDMA is different from PCIe devices. ESXi does not guarantee persistence.


Some settings in the VMware config file /etc/vmware/config are not managed by Host Profiles and are blocked, when the config file is modified. As a result, when the host profile is applied to a cluster, the EVC settings are lost, which causes loss of EVC functionalities. For example, unmasked CPUs can be exposed to workloads.


If you use the Network File System (NFS) and Server Message Block (SMB) protocols for file-based backup of vCenter Server, the backup fails after an update from an earlier version of vCenter Server 7.x to vCenter Server 7.0 Update 1. In the applmgmt.log, you see an error message such as Failed to mount the remote storage. The issue occurs because of Linux kernel updates that run during the patch process. The issue does not occur on fresh installations of vCenter Server 7.0 Update 1.


If the rpmbuild command is unsuccessful with an error that it cannot find a library, you must install the RPMs for the library that your source RPM depends on before you can successfully build your source RPM. Iterate through installing the libraries that your source RPM relies on until you can successfully build it.


Follow the prompts to install VMware Tools. The defaults usually suffice. Remember this only installs VMware tools for the currently running kernel. If you do a yum update you will need to reinstall VMware Tools. Additionally note that the exact VMwareTools tgz will depend on the version of the ESXi hypervisor you are running so you might have to adjust the file name to suit.


In a nutshell: if a Linux distribution provides open-vm-tools from the distribution's standard repository and that distribution/release is supported by VMware, VMware supports and actually prefers you to use that. For older releases that don't include open-vm-tools just use vmware-tools just as before.


This is a very hard question to answer. If you search the VMWare Knowledge Base, you are lead to be leave that open-vm-tools should be used, but once installed Vsphere 5.5 claims open-vm-tools to be outdated. I have no experience with Vsphere 6 or 6.5.


For the combination of RHEL 7 and VMware ESXi 5.5 (Vsphere is the management tool), the VMware Compatibility Guide says that open-vm-tools is supported (Recommended) while the vmware-tools is listed as just supported.


After upgrading the kernel for a RHEL6 to 2.6.32-696.16.1.el6, for some reason, VMWare Tools (v 10.1.10 would not upgrade), no error message once the install completed and summary in vSphere shows not installed.


Hi AllI am having issues with VMware-tools running on Red Hat 6. Whenever kernel gets updated, I will get a below errors Entering non-interactive startup/etc/rc3.d/S00check-vmware-tools: line 10: syntax error near unexpected token start'/etc/rc3.d/S00check-vmware-tools: line 10: start)'the status VMware changes to installed not running.so every time this happens, I need to recompile it by running /usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.plI have another red hat 6 and opev-vm-tools installed, there is no issue at all.I am planning to remove VMware tools and replace to open-VM-tools.somehow, I cannot locate open-vm-tools rpm. Any suggestion where I can get them?
